Connecting. Learning. Growing. Together.
What is NeCARES?
The Nebraska Community Action Research for Equity and Sustainability (NeCARES) Hub is a collaborative group dedicated to reducing educational and health inequities, improving climate resilience and food and water sustainability, and investigating how participatory action research and collaboration science can improve the way the University serves communities across the state. From the Mississippi River to the Panhandle, we are committed to ensuring all kids and families have access and support to enjoy the Good Life State.
C
CommunityCommunity is central to our mission. We believe that thriving individuals and strong communities are mutually dependent on each other.
A
ActionWe are committed to collective action through co-creating knowledge and solutions with practitioners and community members.
R
ResearchWe aim to redefine research by focusing on effective solutions for different contexts and making knowledge more accessible.
E
EquityWe envision a more equitable and just future for young people and their families.
S
SustainabilityWe focus on creating sustainable systems, not temporary projects, and building capacity to ensure Nebraska’s communities thrive in a changing world.
Our vision is to collaboratively reduce racial, economic and spatial inequities in educational, health outcomes, food and water sustainability and climate resilience, by co-developing infrastructure for community-engaged research with communities in Nebraska.
Goal
Our goal is to develop a hub —an organizational model of support for networked activities— that will:
- Support multiple community-engaged research (CER) projects.
- Facilitate the development of a broad network of faculty, practitioners and community members.
- Generate knowledge related to the hub model and its overall impact on our communities, collaborators and the state as a whole.
We aim to:
- Build relationships. Celebrate and build upon our assets to strengthen existing relationships and build new ones.
- Share knowledge. Coordinate learning activities to create and share knowledge.
- Engage communities. Bring together people from across Nebraska to co-design approaches for problem solving.
- Communicate openly. Share ideas and amplify voices.
- Expand capacity and build support. Develop a sustainable model for continuous learning together.
